Project Specifics

Late in 2018, Inter Pipeline announced the authorization of a $3.5 billion Dehydrogenation and Polypropylene Complex dubbed “Heartland”. The complex will be the first of its kind in Canada and be used to manufacture 525,000 tonnes of polypropylene per year from locally sourced propane. Heartland will be located close to Inter Pipeline’s Redwater facility in Strathcona County, Alberta.

Sonic Enclosures was contracted by Atlas Copco to design and manufacture 1 Compressor Package. The Compressor Package contained 2 Altas Copco ZT160 Compressors, 1 Atlas Copco CD350 Dryer, 3-way by-pass filtration system, 660USG receiver tank, Wireless Pressure and Temp transmitters, Re-circulation exhausts ducting system with PLC automatic control, built-in sump and pump drainage system, 2 roll-up doors, and all electrical and controls systems.

Sonic’s ability to manage complex system integration was integral to the success of this program. The control system was successfully interfaced using Modbus RTU to TCP-IP conversion to control the compression & drying equipment and properly interface the respective process equipment & Fire Alarm / HVAC systems to the Balance of Plant Control System.
