The vision of Suncor’s Firebag site is that it will produce 360,000 bbl/day when at full production. The site produced around 260,000 bbl/day in 2005 but will increase capacity by 90,000 bbl/day by 2008 to 350,000 bbl/day. Oil is extracted at Firebag via Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage, and Siemens has been contracted to provide the Water Treatment Plant. The entire WTP and all its equipment will be provided by Siemens who has contracted Sonic Enclosures Ltd to produce Electrical Houses and Metallurgical Cabs.
Sonic Enclosures solved our customer’s problems by developing innovation solutions designed to provide long-term reliability. Our commitment to our customers, suppliers, and employees enabled us to design, manufacture and deliver in the most efficient manner possible.
Due to the magnitude of this project, Sonic opened a second manufacturing plant specifically to produce the Siemens/Suncor buildings. The second site was 5 acres and located close to our original operations to increase efficiencies of using our pre-established supply chain and knowledge, skills, and abilities.
